J is for Jump!

Samara_dec09_0707Ok, I know that’s a bit of a stretch, but seriously jumping activities are a great way to get fun into your fitness. Plus, they burn mad calories.

Jumping is a plyometric activity, activities proven to increase muscle strength, endurance, speed, and balance.

Here are some Jumping exercises you can try (click on the title to get information/instructions):

1. Jumping Jacks

2. Box Jumps

3. Squat Jumps

One of the best way to do these jump exercises is to incorporate them into your strength training routine, by super-setting with a weight bearing exercise. For example you could do:

1. Calve raises with Jumping Jacks – Do 20 calve raises (holding dumbbells or not), then 30 jumping jacks. Rest 30 seconds and repeat 2 more times.

2. Lunges paired with Box Jumps – Do 20 lunges alternating legs (holding dumbbells or not), then 10 box jumps. Rest 30 seconds and repeat 2 more times.

3. Squats with Squat Jumps – Do 12-15 squats (holding dumbbells or not), then 15 squat jumps. Rest 30 seconds and repeat 2 more times.

So just JUMP!
